Electrical System: Instrument Cluster/Panel 2026-10-05 · campaign 26V645000 · 683 vehicles

Defect: Motor Coach Industries (MCI) is recalling certain 2018-2026 buses. Please see the complete list of models above. The instrument panel indicator light may not illuminate when the hazard warning lights are on and the master run switch is in the 'Off' position. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Risk: Without the illuminated reminder, the driver may fail to turn off the exterior lights when no longer needed. Hazard warning lights that remain activated unintentionally can confuse other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: MCI will update the software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 24, 2026. Owners may contact MCI customer service at 1-800-241-2947.

Equipment Adaptive/Mobility:wheelchair Lift/Ramp 2024-02-07 · campaign 24V073000 · 2,114 vehicles

Defect: Motor Coach Industries (MCI) is recalling certain 2014-2018 D4000, 2013-2019 D4005, 2013-2023 D4500, 2013-2020 D4505, and 2021-2024 D45CRT coaches equipped with a Ricon wheelchair lift. The red beacon lighting on the Threshold Warning System (TWS) may not be bright enough. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 403, "Platform Lift Systems."

Risk: Beacons that do not provide proper illumination may be less visible to wheelchair lift users, increasing the risk of injury.

Fix: MCI will work with Ricon to replace the TWS kits, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 21, 2024. Owners may contact MCI customer service at 1-800-241-2947.

Equipment:mechanical:carrier/Rack 2023-04-05 · campaign 23V240000 · 140 vehicles

Defect: Motor Coach Industries (MCI) is recalling certain 2019-2021 D45CRTLE, J3500, and J4500 coaches, equipped with a rear-mounted bike rack. The vehicle's rear lighting may be obstructed when bikes are installed on the bike rack. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Risk: Obstructed rear lighting may reduce the visibility of the vehicle to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: MCI will provide instructions and a kit to add lighting to the rear-mounted bike rack, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 31, 2023. Owners may contact MCI customer service at 1-800-241-2947.

Fuel System, Diesel:fuel Injection System:fuel Rail 2021-12-15 · campaign 21V971000 · 1,125 vehicles

Defect: Motor Coach Industries (MCI) is recalling certain 2019-2022 D4000 ISTV, D4500, 2021 D4000, D4520, 2020-2021 D4505, D4005, 2020-2022 D45CRTLE, and 2019-2021 J4500 vehicles equipped with certain Cummins X12 diesel engines. The fuel tubes between the fuel rail and the injectors for cylinders four, five, and six may fatigue and crack, which can result in a high pressure fuel leak.

Risk: A high pressure fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

Fix: On engines with 75 miles or less, Cummins dealers will install vibration isolators to the fuel tubes. Engines with more than 75 miles will receive new fuel tubes with vibration isolators. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 11, 2022. Owners may contact MCI customer service at 1-800-241-2947. MCI's number for this recall is R21-028.
